January gets a bad wrap, but I love it
For some, it's a month full of painful self-reflection and deprivation, but it doesn't have to be. It can be a month full of possibility and hope. It's a new year full of new , new things to create and learn. New books to read, new movies to watch, and new music to listen to. New paintings to paint, new drawings to draw, new writing to write. It's a new year and there's new ways to learn to love those you hold dear, and new way to learn to love yourself and grow.
For January's challenge, I decided to do gesture drawings daily (with the exception of the weekends and there has been some sick days as well). Gesture drawings are quick sketches, trying to capture the bare bones of the image. It's a very process focused exercise, meaning sometimes the end results were well... less than beautiful. And that's Okay! The main reason I draw (or paint or write), is to delight in the beauty of the world and to process the not so beautiful things in this life. If something beautiful comes of the gestures? Great. Fantastic. And I think some beautiful things have. Here are some of my favorite gestures from this month.
If you're interested in purchasing any of these pieces, send me an email! The originals will be for sale for $30, prints for $15
